About this project

After the cops murdered George Floyd and the protests started in Atlanta, I grabbed a camera. I didn't really have a plan, it just seemed like best thing I could do. Atlanta Uprising is what that turned into. I'm still figuring out what it is as I make it. It's a story told in the faces of strangers, I know that much. It's broken up into chapters, partially because that's the shape the story took on, and partially because this story isn't over. Maybe once I'm done telling it I'll know what it really is.

About the artist

Once upon a time I was a photographer. I'm a white guy who is proud to live in a very black city. I've lived in this city for a long time, Atlanta is my adopted home. I'm an activist and I do have a side in this battle. I am a participant in this story, but this story isn't about me.

I tell you this to give you some idea of what my context is. You can make of all that what you will. Beyond that, who I am doesn't matter. This project is intentionally anonymous. The true authors of this story are George, Breonna, Raychard, and all the others we have lost to this racist system. If you need a name say theirs.

We are building something in the streets. We are winning by inches every day. I want to tell our story. I hope I do y'all proud.

When will the next chapter drop?

Atlanta Uprising is a labor of love, which is a nice way of saying work and life and hitting the streets have to come before post-production. There is more coming. Follow @atluprising on twitter for announcements.
